Your journey kicks off in the coastal town of Negombo, just a short drive from the international airport. We’ll officially begin our adventure with a welcome meeting at 5:30 PM this evening.
If you arrive early, soak in the charm of seaside life—watch the colorful fishing boats return with the day’s catch or treat yourself to some delicious local seafood. For a closer look at the lush surroundings, consider renting a bicycle (the hotel reception can assist) and explore the nearby countryside at your own pace.
After the evening briefing, you’ll have the chance to join an optional dinner—a great way to meet your fellow travelers and share in the excitement of the journey ahead.

Start your day early and travel to Dambulla, home to Sri Lanka’s largest and best-preserved cave temple complex. After checking into your accommodation, take a short drive to the iconic Sigiriya – a UNESCO World Heritage site. Begin your climb of the 1200 steps to the top of Lion Rock, an ancient rock fortress rising 200 metres above the jungle. Along the way, explore the water gardens, boulder gardens, frescoes, and the mirror wall. From the summit, enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding plains and nearby Pidurangala Rock. After descending, continue to Minneriya National Park for a wildlife safari, known for its large elephant gatherings (best seen between July and December), as well as sightings of sloth bears. Return to Dambulla for a relaxing evening.

Miners often work in teams, using simple tools like pans, sluices, and baskets to sift through river sediment in search of precious stones such as sapphires, garnets, and moonstones. This method, called “sediment washing,” involves collecting gravel from the river and gently washing it to reveal hidden gems. The process is labour-intensive but environmentally low-impact, reflecting the deep connection between Sri Lankan culture and its natural resources.
